I think I've got about one strike per second just in the skies overhead Newcastle right now. Very very noisey and bright pinkish flashes of lightning. About half a second between flash and bang!

I loaded that up earlier, a few minutes after I noticed it going crazy outside. Today I have been the closest I have ever been to a strike, I was looking out of the window at work and one hit about 200 yards away - made a nice loud sharp crack almost immediately, which echoed and bounced around the buildings nearby. Very different to hearing a distant one!
UK gets that once a year, if they're lucky. I get it, saying I live in the lightning capital of the US, at least 10 times a year. Closest strike I've seen is <150yd. But there was this once that I think it struck 20 ft away on the pool netting. I've seen several closeup strikes. There was this once, where there was literally nonstop lightning, to a point where you could read under it, if you chose to. LOL. I loved lightning way before HV lol. Two extra years. It's what got me on the subject anyways. lol

About a month or two ago there was a short but big storm(new england weather, what do you expect). But I was sitting at the computer, and there is a window in front of me. I look up to see the brightest flash of lightning I have ever seen: a tree got struck a few trees deep into the woods behind my house. I think the corona actually warned me to look up in time to see the bolt! My neighborhood is probably the worst lightning wise in the whole town, cause its up on a hill with lots of tall trees. My neighbor has had more than one tree struck down right in their yard, and a few of them lit completely on fire!
Plus during the Nor'easter two years ago, everyone lost power for about a week, and the polepig outside my house was one that blew up. There where some loud 60hz humms, while the neighborhood lit up bright green, then boom! The next day we found metal mounting brackets on our driveway even though the pig was 50m away!
