For looks I was thinking it would be cool to buy some LED strips (those sticky back, paper thin clad ones) and putting it in each 1/8 primary section. But, could this cause problems with the primary and make the coil not perform?
If its a bad idea, is there any way I can get the same style of effect..?

P.S If anyone wonders why the clear lexan on top, I had a long chat with steve ward. He gave me reasons besides just "keeps the dust off"

two problems i can think of: -If the voltage is high enough on the primary it could arc to the LEDs -The primary might induce a large current into the wiring for the LEDs
for a similar effect: -EL wire might work -individual LEDs with their leads and wiring perpendicular to the primary so minimal voltage is induced in them -pipe the light in using TIR (fiber optics or more acrylic) -if you could get some small fluorescent bulbs incorporated neatly, wouldn't they light up when the coil runs?

Yeah, they would. I think the energy that lights up the bulbs wouldn't be significant enough to really cause any problem. Could be something to look into. Someone suggested me the light tubes before, but id need 1 per section, unless I make a coil ring with it.. my look odd, underneath ;)

You could scratch the lexan with a cool pattern, then just shine light from the controlls up to the plexi. That'd be really awesome. Just might do that with mine now that I came up with that!

I would say as long as the wiring for the LEDs doesn't form a complete loop around the primary, it should be fine. You want to minimise the loop area of the LED supply circuit as far as possible.

Yeah, but how are they wired. Do you have 1 string of wire going from a power supply to each LED, or just 1 string of wire, and you connect your LEDS in parallel (meaning you have a open circle)
