I'm 15 and haven't even made one yet. That's awesome you even attempted it at 10! At 10, well, I knew that voltage had to do with electricity. That's pretty much it. And what AC and DC current was. xD

I think it's cool that you were even trying to make a transformer in the first place. Most 10 year olds think a transformer is some kind of robot that turns into a truck.

HA! LOL! i brought a flyback to show my math/physics PHd professor, he was impressed, then the other 22 year old in my 2nd calculus class said: "whoa!, is that one of those things that turns into a robot!?"

I don't know how young I was, but I took a bulb from a incandecant flashlight, wired it to an ac plug, and got ready to plug it in through a homemade blast shield in my basement XD. Good thing I didn't have the guts to plug it in. Mains still creeps me out a bit even if I am comfortable working with it, and know that I won't be killed as long as I don't be stupid.

Ohh its not that bad... just think of it as a shunt wink. There will be flux going through all the legs... just about less than 1/3 of the total flux.
