Hey I have completed my first DRSSTC. when i connect my extern modulator everything works fine.. my goal with this project was to make it play music and i am nearly there. I wanted to play Midi files from my computer. just keyboard single note played songs.
here is my diagram.
the power supply from my computer is not plugged in.
I tried first with a steady 100Hz tone.. worked fine.. flickered a little but not much. when i play midi files i have the small issue when it plays tones that have a short on time the sound is really low and the SPARK is nearly gone.. it also flickers a lot more..
so i dont know what my next move should be. i tried shielding my electrical design.. did not make a difference. ??

You need to actively adjust the on-time of the coil based on the frequency to get the same spark length. Lower BPS operation will require higher on-times to produce the same spark performance, my DRSSTC requires around 45uS on-time at 200Hz to produce the same spark length as 15uS on-time at 1kHz. You'll want to set up some sort of pulsewidth lookup table in your software.
As for the noise issue, check your board for ground loops, and try decoupling your ICs by deadbugging capacitors directly between IC pins on the bottom side. Can you post a picture of your board layout?
