Hi everyone I'm shore I'm not the only one with this problem I can't seem to find a way to stop my sstc and some if my other HV experiments from interfering with my very expensive mobile phone (hTc sensation) the problem is worst with my sstc if I get within 2.5 metres of the coil it just goes nuts which is problem when I'm trying to take pics or videos and I'm also worried this could damage my phone dose anyone have a solution to this problem? I tried a price of grounded foil on the back of my phone but it had no effect

How about simply using a disposable film camera for photos? What might work is a metal box with open top, and a small hole in the bottom for the camera to look through. If its deep enough you can probably reduce the field strengths sufficiently. Will be a right pain to control the phone, but I can think of any other options. The capacitive touchscreen is likely very sensitive to the kind of fields produced by a tc
i realy like to use my phone becoas it has a widescreen 8MP cemera and HD video recorder and most of all it taks all of two seconds to see the pictur uve taken as oposed to waiting untill uoy get a chance to go and get it developed and then find out it was no good and you needto take another one how do other people do it?

This have to do with many factors, but two large ones come to mind.
1. Your phone is a piece of shit EMC wise, there is little shielding and antennas to pick up interference.
2. The resonant frequency of your Tesla coil and its harmonics might in the same spectres of frequencies used in the phone.
I have never had interference issues even when near as 50 cm with my DSLR, never experienced that my phone crashed while having it in my pocket or my digital scope standing a meter from the coil.

HTC Desire S did not like my SSTC running at 240kHz, touch screen stopped working every time i powered the coil. Reboot by battery removal brought it back to life every time. No permanent harm was done but still annoying if someone happened to call during test runs.
Also both of my my dslrs (Canon 350D and nikon D3100) dont like electric/magnetic fields at all. 350D gives me ERR99 if i go close to running SSTC (1 meter is enough) and D3100 makes vertical lines if i try to take a pic close to (0.5 meters) induction heater work coil which has 1000Amps at 40kHz
So far only thing i have killed with tesla coil is alarm system. That was done by foolishly letting my MOT powered spark gapper to run indoors and throw sparks to walls/ceiling instead of dedicated well grounded strike target.
The primary is earthed to my shed wich is grounded by a metal post in,the ground outside

Same thing happens to mine at less then a meter but I don't need to restart it at over a meter the focus goes crazy and the flash terns on and off

RIP, I have the same problem ... with the same phone :p
I can't take pics when closer than 1.5m from my VTTC, video works better if I start recording far away from the coil , then it usually keeps working near the coil, sometimes zooming automatically...
