I want to buy a (radio)scanner.I found two models that meet the frequency range I am planning to receive:Radio Shack pro-2036 and fair mate HP-100 .Both of them are used.If I hope to pick up distant weak signals,which one should I choose?The HP-100 cost much more here.Is it better? I plan to listen to VHF/UHF air band and amateur band.Are base station types better than hand held types?

"Better" is often a good receiver with a matched "excellent" antenna.
I tried the USB TV SDR before and it didn't work very well.I can only pick up few nearby VHF amateur signals and the sound quality was poor.I use a 1.2 meter long steel rod as my antenna.
