Just saw the Olympic torch pass through Shrewsbury, Shropshire today and wow what an atmosphere it was! Lots of people waving British flags and the weather was nice. I was around 15ft from it as it went passed in the torch bearers hand.

And apparently my sister saw me on TV lol.

Just wondering, has anyone else on here in the UK seen it whilst it was passing through your local town/village?

Unfortunately not, It was during my college lunch time that I saw it and I didn't want to risk carrying my expensive DSLR around with me during classes. If I was there with my family in the car then I would have brought it.

Lots of pictures here though Link2

Besides, it was one of those "you had to be there" moments cheesey

My stepson saw it go through Shepton Mallet last tuesday with his school.

We avoided the area until the crowds disappeared, but saw an athlete 'posing' for the BBC with it in the market square in Wells later in the afternoon.

An ancient question, dating back to alchemy. On a nano scale, can a characteristic
constituent be transmitted by flame alone across space?

In other words, say we seed the Olympic torch at the start. Could we detect
the seed element in the flame of the terminal torch, as a way of determining
the integrity of the transfer process?

I beg to differ, the 'characteristic constituent' is the flame itself, not what is fuelling it. (and it doesn't burn constantly anyway, they 'put it away' at the end of the day. It's just symbolic.

I not only saw a torch the other day: I held it.
The son of a colleague is one of the bearers and his dad brought the torch in to work.
