I just recently built an audio modulate solid state tesla coil to show at Bay Area Maker Faire 2012. It works pretty good, it's designed to run on 120 but using my VARIAC with a 5A fuse the coil keeps blowing it. I have about 5 turns on my primary of 3 wire about 12 gauge solid core. Any Ideas to bring down the required amount of current, increases spark length, and not short out the primary and secondary?
I think I just need to get a bigger fuse or Higher amp rated VARIAC.
