Hi all. has anyone else heard of this approach? It seems that one possible way to get reasonable energy densities from a thorium reactor is to dispense with the solid core entirely and use thorium 232 as hexafluoride. This is then spun up to high speeds in a spherical beryllium cased reactor containing a counter-rotating inner beryllium core with the heat exchangers and coolant, which resembles the "Earth Core simulator" and then bombarded from one or both ends with neutrons from a linac.
The main advantage of this approach is that because the fluoride salt is spinning it can be evenly distributed and cooled via directed liquid lead/bismuth. As the heavy thorium salts would end up in a thin layer the energy density could be very high indeed but retaining the ability to shut down the reactor by cutting off the linac's drive.
