Hi..

Information on this subject is sketchy at best, but it seems that certain schematics that detail how to build devices such as broadcast FM transmitters (ie in violation of WTA 1984 in the UK) are themselves illegal.

Also added to the list are the dimensions and other details for some types of cavity microwave oscillators that can transmit on restricted frequencies such as GPS, and other "interesting" frequencies.

According to at least one UK amateur radio magazine they are clamping down on import of many types of transmitter because of the interference issue, and even electronics kits are not immune to this due to the RoHS, WEEE and REACH legislation exemption being removed.

Anyone want to add to this list?

Wait until 6 months after the affluent Olympic tourists leave, and residents who can't afford tickets see their property taxes triple to pay for the circus. Targeting intellectuals will do wonderful things for their unregulated economy. Most businesses will see the city shut down financially for 4 to 6 months while the core district will see an increase in tourists.

Many of the Olympics traditions are actually products of 20th century Nazi propaganda campaigns, and have little to do with Athen's history. England has already bumped Iran down the list in "morality" police incidents. Indignant dictators always suggest innocents have nothing to hide, and yet live in constant fear of exposing the perverse fraud they have sold to the public.

I think someone should give the standing government a Gold Medal for Fascism.

The only banned schematics I'm aware of are for an Electro-Harmonix guitar pedal. EHX threatened us with legal action if we didn't remove them from the Music Electronics Forum.

My work's web filter blocks the Free Information Society and their schematic archive.

Given the obvious Nazi connections, Smith and Carlos were lucky to escape with their lives, let alone keep their medals. tongue Link2

Jesse Owens had greater historical importance:

He could outrun Fascist rhetoric, but not the bigotry back home...

The circus will abandon the facilities long before the local people get their massive bill.

Yeah, copyright is a major PITA sometimes.
I had no idea anyone here had suffered due to greedy companies saying "Oi thats my intellectual property"...

Heaven forbid someone digs up patents for all the major Tesla coil circuits and then tries to collect royalties, like they did with the Macrovision stripper circuits.

Patents do not forbid the dissemination of information OR personal use, only commercial use.

This is true, however Macrovision were infamous for going after electronics magazines for daring to publish kits for sale.
On one occasion they actually sent their lawyers to Maplins and demanded immediate destruction of not only the PCBs but even the components of the kits or the entire company would be shut down by the court order in hand.
Talk about overkill...

Proposed changes to the patent laws in the USA could among other things outlaw use of patents for non commercial use, however they are being contested under existing Fair Use legislation.
The changes would also essentially outlaw Linux as many aspects of the operating system are patented by Microsoft, Apple, and other companies.
No doubt manufacturers using it in embedded applications would have to pay royalties which means prices of e-readers and other such devices could skyrocket shortly.

Also relevant, see Link2
Seems that this particular variant uses a modified crystal detector aka "biased diode" to get very high efficiency conversion of radio waves to direct current.
I expect that given time I could use my modification of the blue LED varicap to make a small self tuning device which could harness ambient radio energy to power an LED flasher or other small device.
Note how many of Tesla's patents this guy cites, just shows how much unused information may be "out there" waiting for an application or technology to be developed.

Another intriguing variant of the antenna is something called a "virtual antenna".
This uses a gas filled tube ionised with HV to conduct radio waves, so that its length can be adjusted "on the fly" to transmit and receive at multiple wavelengths without moving parts.
I saw this in "New Scientist" back in 2002 but since then it seems to have gone silent.

Possibly also make a flat glass antenna with neon or another easily ionisable gas between the two panes to aim and focus wi-fi energy onto a distant receiver without the usual requirement for moving parts.

Might be relevant to those experimenting with wireless power as glass happens to be transparent.
Replacing the window glass with the ITO+neon dual layer sort would also be a perfect way to amplify TV and 3G/4G signals so that phones work better indoors.
