I'm making a coilgun and I want a lot of capacitance for cheap. Where can I get this?

Searching around, people mentioned going to a photo place and asking for spent disposable cameras, then taking the flash capacitors out of those. But is it still possible to do this? Haven't seen a disposable camera in ages, as I think phone cameras have largely replaced these.

I live in Texas, btw.

Should be able to. I got 10+ stores locally i can get disposable cameras that are being recycled from...I just say its for a school project else some places are like okay........why....and think your trying to get free batteries that i found to be typically at 1.2V or more.

Idk. Here you can still get them. Not everyone can afford a cellphone with a camera. Not all parents let their 1st grade child on a field trip use their phones...Theres still reasons to have them around. Though, I have seen cheap digital cameras that you return back, that are kid-friendly.

The thrift shops often have non-disposable but cheap SLR 35 mm plastic
cameras for a dollar or so. It is easy to get the lamp, cap and board out by
breaking the camera open.

Hell yeah, I get them every time I go to CVS. Ask them, they'll dump em on you. I have tons of FB caps all over my room. Then again I do live in orlando, where they get truckloads of these each day. but they definately have these all over the place.

I went to CVS and they told me that they now are required to send the spent camera husks back to Kodak. So no caps for me :(

That sucks. Last time I asked in Tesco's they gave me a bag full of them for free!

Tesco's
What's that?

Anyway, where else should I go/shop for my high-capacitance needs? I need the most farads per dollar I can get.

Also magnet wire. Gonna need some magnet wire...

The $.99 stores around here have disposable cameras for a dollar. You can shoot the roll of film first and then process it if you want. I know, a novel idea.

A store down the street still processes film and they gave me a bunch of the generic disposable camera leftovers. They do turn the Kodak ones in for credit.
