I am attempting to replicate this SSTC with a few modifications like fiber optic control. I got the simple 555 modulator working and sending the signal over fiber optic to the drive circuit. I am having problems with the audio modulator circuit. The 100R or 100ohm resistor coming off of the second NPN transistor is getting very hot as well as the 555. Any ideas? I tried out the drive circuit and it didn't work because Digi Key gave me a fried capacitor. Hopefully when I get the new capacitor nothing eles is wrong with the drive circuit.

Try changing the 100R resistor to say 10K and then add a 1.5K between the emittier and ground and see if that helps.

I had the same problem with that circuit. The resistor would go up in smoke.
I never got it to work properly. I think you will need an amp circuit in front of the op amp to boost signal.

I just remembered I didnt have the bc547s I was using 2n2222.

I bet the diff. in gain is whats causing the problems.

Use series resistor in circuit of 10k 'POT3'.
Increase the value of R6, R7, R8 resistors.

I got the new capacitor installed and I tried to fire the coil using the basic interrupter. The tesla coil did not fire. The only thing that happend was the fuse in my VARIAC blew. No hot components but no lighting. It seams like the bridge or gate drive is not working. By the way I installed two of the 1500uf Caps in parallel. I tested the bridge and the + and - supply was shorted out. I checked the MOSFETs and two are fried. They where allowing voltage to go from the + to the - rail of the supply. Anyone know how I could have fried them? I mite end up having to make a half-bridge. :(
