So you are speechless at the thought of these kinds of devices being used for domestic 'peacekeeping' but they are ok for us to use elsewhere?

I am horrified.
At this point I am seriously wondering if they are using "1984" as an instruction manual, or just trying to beat China to a total police state v2.0

The problem is that censorship by fear is still censorship, with all the evils therein contained.

I don't imagine these devices would be of much use on the battlefield. Do they have any use other than domestic crowd control?

Crowd control abroad, of course. Most modern wars seem to be wars of occupation, rather than wars fought on battlefields. Being able to suppress a riot in an occupied nation with minimal casualties would probably be very valuable.

Can you give me ONE example of where these weapons have been used in the context you describe, Chris? smile

They are also putting an assault ship in the Thames opposite Grenwich - it'll be the base for the helicopters & Royal Marine snipers etc.

Here's a good video from the BBC Link2

I work in the City of London (the financial district) and we have Chinooks flying around several times a day now...

So in order to make a few interlopers deaf, they make the rest of London deaf too?

London is actually quite big :)

From the top of Tower 42 (one of the higher buildings in the City) I can clearly see the main Olympic games site...

What really, really, irritates me is that LOCOG (London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games) have been running congestion trials at main-line railway stations in the middle of the rush hour.

They do this by shutting half of the automatic exit gates, so the platforms fill up with highly irate folk on their way to work who deeply resent being used as unwilling guinea pigs. My mood was not lifted by being approached by some wretched LOCOG market researcher with a clipboard asking about my experience of their "test" - by this time I was 10 minutes late for my first meeting, and was NOT a happy bunny... I doubt they recorded my actual words...
