Hi,
I have never built an SGTC so I have no idea about this...
If I was going to build a SRSGTC with 10kVA of input power (so the kW might be in the 5-7 range but I don't really know), at 100 bps (synchronous with 50 Hz), what spark length can I expect when everything is tuned properly?

Thanks

Here is my DC spark gapper at around 6-7kW. Longest sparks it made were about 3 meters so far. Still needs more testing and tuning but my rectifier failed.

Some years ago John Freau came up with an approximation;

Spark length = 1.7 x sqrt(Watts) ... inches.

e.g. for Kizmo 1.7 x sqrt(6500) = 137 inches =3.48 m

Thanks for the replies smile
Sulaiman, from my experience the square root relation between power and spark length is not 100% correct, a 4x increase in power seems to lenghten the sparks more than 2 times, at least on continuous oscillation coils.

Anyway, I calculated the tank capacitor to ~0.15uF with charging voltage of 30kV, which is really big I think there's no way for me to get such capacitor, so this project will most likely not happen.
