 		Try a voltage-doubling transformer followed by a diode bridge. Sprinkle with fuses and switches.
When plugged into 117vac then it provides around 330vdc output at fairly high current.
For extra credit, add a Variac to get a simple variable DC supply from 0 - 350 vdc.
