Where do you live?

I have an old AC flyback I could trade;

Or, alternatively a (formerly) rectified DC flyback transformer. It's one of those modern ones, so it'll be much more robust than the older ac one... and it works fine.

What do the switching boards do? (sounds like a silly question)

I might be interested in the IRF150's.

I've been checking the IRF150 datasheets etc., and some seem to be 30V while some seem to be 100V. Do you know which these are?

The IRF150 is a 100V part. The military love it because of the hermetically sealed TO-3 can. SMPS designers hate it because the steel can adds a lot of inductance to the source lead.

On the whole, not recommended for new designs. Better and cheaper devices are available in plastic packages. Of course if you already have some kicking around, that changes the economics somewhat. tongue
