FFS, "what price security" indeed.

I think it is clear the UK Government is headed down the wrong path, who here supports a campaign to call for a general election before the end of 2012 ?

Judging by the complete lack of progress on any of the issues on which ConDem got elected, it seems clear they are totally incompetent and unfit for purpose.

Age determination by X-ray sounds tricky. I know nothing about it, but here is an interesting study: Link2

I call bullshit on all the seeds and USB memory stick stuff. I think it is far more likely that the bulk packs were stuffed with counterfeits at the factory. And irradiation facilities capable of killing seeds are huge, expensive, and need lots of shielding.

Although, the US Postal Service does irradiate mail to government offices: Link2 And, sending plants, seeds and animal products in international mail is probably forbidden anyway. I think New Zealand in particular is paranoid about it, in case some foreign species gets a foothold. They would probably love to irradiate everything but can't afford it.

I do agree that the current Con-Dem government is the most insipid ever. It doesn't even have a personality to hate, like Thatcher or John Major, or Tony Blair for that matter.

So, bland and inoffensive on the surface, up to sinister things behind our backs. How British.

A philosophical question for the mix: If nobody cares about a given human right, did it ever exist?

It's weird that they are focussing on the possible harm done to the kids but nobody has noticed that the procedure is a waste of time.
Anyway the Tories are now presiding over the first double dip recession since the 70s which makes their claims of sound financial sense seem very hollow.
Together with tax cuts for the very rich it's clear that this is government by millionaires for millionaires.
