If you are in the UK then lots of medieval heritage centres seem to sell chain-mail suits at places like castles, might be worth a look if you are in the UK. My local English heritage castle sells this sort of thing for battle re-enactments.

I believe a lot of people use shark suits which are essentially chainmail with a much finer link. You could of coarse make one if you have enough time. Bend steel wire into rings, then interconnect them. I did this with a really small patch made of aluminum 18 gauge wire before suffering from mind numbing boredom.

The other issue is that they can develop high resistance areas so they often use a second insulation layer underneath to ensure current can't flow where it isnt wanted. Also they use copper woven into the suit to lower conductivity a bit.
Order them online, but it's not cheap :/ if not I would have bought one. I think flying over to UK, buying one, paying for the extra weight, and flying back would be cheaper XP
