Hey guys, I just found out(maybe you already know?) that Fairchild will sample up to five different products -per week- of a limited quantity. It's very nice: automatic, no questions asked, free two day shipping. I just got myself a few 60n60 igbts along with a few other products. Just thought I would let everyone know. All I ask is that people don't abuse this privilege so that it doesn't become harder to get. I will be looking around to see what other companies do this as well.

Actually I am about to get a few dozen wima snubbers for free, but it takes a lot of emailing with live salespeople, so I don't recommend it. Wima manufactured to order.

If you post about it advertising the ease of getting of free samples, it *will* be abused. Previous threads on the topic have turned nasty.

Free samples are something best not talked about. If you decide to abuse the sample programs, don't mention it.

Well, what constitutes abuse? A billion-dollar corporation isn't really going to have its bottom line hurt by giving away $50 worth of parts. Just don't sample more than you need and don't resell them. I remember some guy used his defence industry contacts to get hundreds of IGBTs and then dumped them on EBay, which wasn't good.

Every company has a different sample policy. Some need you to have a business address. Some give the parts free but make you pay shipping. Some won't ship to certain countries. Some make you talk to a sales rep on the phone, and then call you back a month later to see if you actually used the samples. smile

Vishay are also very good, they even have a sample request section next to each product. They won't sample IGBT's though, but I've got a few good 'FETs and HV resistors from them, with express shipping as well. I asked Littelfuse in the sample section for three different fuses, 3 each (9 total) but only got 1 fuse from them and I'm not sure which one it is that I got.

i got from fairchild 3 mosfets, 3 12V v-regs, 6 1kv 4007 diodes, and 4 555s for my flyback driver (extras because I tend to be a little careless) I was about to finish the project yesterday, when i realized my power supply (a 14V charger brick that is supposed to actually give 12V @ 1.5A) had a wire broken too close to the brick so i couldn't solder it back on.

Esecially when their contract-manufactured $35 ICs are put in a hundred million i-devices.
