My trusty Nokia 3410 finally died (I'll bet few of you will have seen one of those outside a museum) so I bought a new phone. It has MP3 ringtones, and I can select a different ringtone for each contact, very handy.

I've already chosen suitable ones for my sons. The eldest is into MMA and looks fearsome in a muscle vest, so "Eye of the Tiger" is about right. My youngest is a music scholar, so as soon as I can find a decent version of the Widor organ tocatta from symphony number 5, that's going on.

Now for my wife. I must assume that whatever I choose will eventually get back to her, so it can't be anything too offensive, otherwise Chas'n'Dave's Rabbitrabbitrabbitrabbitrabbit practically chooses itself. Similarly it can't be too effusive or slushy, otherwise she will think I'm taking the pi$$.

Any suggestions?

A nokia died? I'm surprised! If you drop a nokia, there's an earthquake and it falls through the earth back to Japan. How did it die?

I've seen one die, but I think it was my fault.

My last Nokia outlived three batteries, and being dropped countless times, once from a mountain bike at speed. It was still going when I replaced it with an iPhone out of pure geek lust.

Re the ringtone, how about the old country and western classic: "I miss you so much, it's almost as bad as if you were here" wink

Battery failure due to leakage can wreck the PCB.

Ironically the Li-Ions were less prone to this than the NiMH.

That would actually be a few km from where I live, in Nokia, Pirkanmaa, Finland. (Okay, I think even most of the 3310's were manufactured in China, but my point still stands.)
Apart from paper machines (2/3 of the world's paper is made on Finnish paper machines (at least according to Metso (if my memory serves me right
))), Nokia is one the most important brands to my national pride. Well, that and Angry Birds.

Just sayin'

Edit: as for the ringtone: um... a 50Hz sinewave?
