Just a quick warning, don't use a MOT to power it. I would go for a voltage multiplier from mains, and you can put a MOSFET interrupter in the cathode.

So, this is it. I hope to get sparks from about 1/2 inch. Can something be improved? I plan to get it at work at the end of the week, and I'll be back!

If you can, tap the plate transformer somewhere in the middle for the screen supply. Then decrease screen resistance to something like 10k and put a .01uF ceramic cap from screen grid to cathode. Increase control grid resistance to 47k and use something like 470pf across the resistor. Increase the resonant cap to maybe 2200-4700pf, re-calculate primary turns, use tuning taps. You may need to tap in less than 1 turn steps. When designing the new primary, aim for a pretty high coupling, but not too much.
