I went to purchase some flouro lamps today and $10 for a box of two? So, I asked google what was the big deal.

Turns out, china is essentially embargoing us when it comes to europium oxide. Link2
Actually, they're screwing us over on a whole bunch of rare-earths. Link2

$2 worth of Eu2O3 one year ago is now worth about $24, and it's steadily going up. I guess this throws a wrench into the big CFL switchover plan...

You're into stocks and investments and so on. I'm surprised you hadn't already bought several rail cars of the stuff when the price was low? tongue

I doubt it would affect the switchover plan much, since the CFL bulbs are mostly made in China anyway. I guess the Chinese would rather the world bought complete CFL bulbs from them, than the raw materials to make their own.

You should really buy stock in Mercury mining and Mercury recycling stock. Not to mention big Pharma that sells chelates to get heavy metals out of your body, that is when all the "greenies" learn how much they've poisoned the planet 20 years from now.

Also, blue light from compact fluorescents can cause macular degeneration over time.
This has been conveniently overlooked by the manufacturers, and LED lamps can be even worse.
Especially as many of these use a phosphor to convert blue light to yellow and red, leaving a large
amount of unfiltered blue light to get through.

Methinks that future lamps will need a "circadian compensator" so the light changes colour at certain times in order
to avoid these side effects.
