Extech to my knowledge, makes the only clamp on meter with power factor measurement. I told this to the Agilent guys on the demo bus when they were at my work, just as a jab. Power factor is an important measurement from time to time, tells you the actual power being delivered to a circuit, and to me, I only work with one phase so the Extech is pretty valuable to me.
I would include power factor, and be able to measure AC and DC amps.
If you want a real challenge, DC and AC amps up to 10KHz.

How is this multimeter idea going? I have my nixie six digits display working now with i2c and spi comm and I am trying to figure it out how to do a simple voltage, current, and power meter with it. DC first, maybe AC, 0 to 1000V auto-range.
But so far I only found the easy "do not apply more than 12V to this circuit" or super-complicated, super-precise $14 just for the adc circuit.
If you find any autorange simple concept please share it =D

Dunno if the right way, but the auto ranging could be made by a cmos switch that switches different resistors of a voltage divider for the voltage scale, and scanning from the highest voltage setting to the lowest voltage setting until an adequate measure is found. The input would need some kind of protection; maybe two zeners back to back (if you are hoping to add AC at some point) or a tvs.
But maybe I am totally wrong and speaking nonsense. Maybe someone more experienced will be able to guide you.
