Hi,
im planning to be build the SSTC-2, where i live we run on 240v, i dont fancy halfing my voltage in, so is there any IGBTs or MOSFETS i can use for it instead of the IRFP260s?

wait. you have no need for doubling, and your mains voltage is what us in the USA would get using a doubler. so just inverse the operation. use a full wave bridge rectifier to charge two series capacitors. then the voltage across each cap is half of the total voltage. if you use a half bridge, you can use the tap between the caps for the "0" voltage. then use the top and bottom rails as your + and - rails. or plan accordingly if using a full bridge.

what frequency are you running it at? i have found that in situations some igbts can greatly improve performance by eliminating the on resistance. this also limits heating issues. in a coil i recently built, i used some hgtg30n60b3d igbts up to 1.2MHz with no problems. when the class e coil was completely untuned(hard switching) the devices only heated slightly. i could run the coil for hours. then with a mosfet, i could only run about 5 mins on low duty interrupt. they are rated for 600v, so i recommend running higher bridge voltages. just make sure you have over voltage protection.

I just realized that it was Wards SSTC5 that I built, as a full bridge version. It was relative cheap to build, maximum 50$ or so, most materials are scavenged
