I think that the current doubler can be built without resistors, by just connecting the first comb to the roller and the second to the terminal, through combs. The roller will be charged above the terminal potential, practically to the potential on the belt at the connection with the roller, that is easily many kV above. At the second comb, the belt will be charged to the limit with opposite charge by induction. The first comb can even be omitted, since the belt will leak to the roller anyway. Your machine, at this high current level, could test how well this work easily.

Hi Finn,
Thanks for the input my brushes are approx 1/16" or so from the belt. I am going to experiment a little with this one to see how the brush placement effects it. I have a total of four brushes on this machine the bottom brushes are placed as shown in the make shift sketch I added. I am in the middle of another DRSSTC at the moment so once I finish it and one other coil I will get back on this and see what I can do with it. Everything seems to be fine on it now and yes you are correct you certainly can see the corona spray when the lights are off.

I will post some pictures of the whole set up once I get back on that, I do like what you did with yours looks like you can adjust it for levelness if I am seeing it correcty? That is a really good idea!!

Dr. Brounout:

This machine deserves a video... are you going to attache a video in this thread in order to show the sparks ?

Regards

Hahaha Yes I will take a video of it and post it. I am changing a couple of things on it, one of the things is the discharge terminal, I have a 7" x 34" spun aluminum toroid I just put on it, then I am going to change that to a dome terminal and see which performs better.

And I am cleaning it up alittle so its a little more eye worthy...LOL

One piece of advice that was given to me by my college professor at the VDG laboratory was that keeping the top roller far away from the opening in the dome improves its performance. So in your case I guess that would mean keeping the roller as close the center of the toroids axis as possible.

D.C. Cox and his "Bridge of Fire" museum exhibit uses a VDG almost exactly like yours. I'm sure you know who he is, he used to be on this site frequently. Resonance Research is his company.

Actually that is where this one came from. It was inoperable when I got it apparently it had been in storage for a long time the belt was rotted, rollers were a mess. This was the original Bridge of Fire. Once I got it I started re working it to make it operate again. New belt, Changed out the recitifiers Cleaned up the rollers, made new brushes actually added a brush...its been a project, it was in pretty rough shape when I recieved it but at least it works again but still needs a little more work.
