Just letting the world of 4HV know that im still around. May have been dead for awhile, but i didnt get zapped to death or anything like that... Last on 4HV i was working on my DRSSTC fullbridge upgrade, after the halfbridge maxed out my breakers kicking 7ft sparks. I stopped in the middle of this, and put it all in storage. The system worked, just needs to be cleaned and spark tested. I just had a random decision to break from HV, and do a new hobby, for a long time. Least half a year or something.
So im not 100% isolated from high voltage. I am a member of the geek group, and have assisted greatly on their quarter crusher, stomper, and other projects to come. No idea if thats gona make some of you frown upon me, but its life. I finally got a place to be around people who are like me, and do what i do, High voltage. I have used their lab time to time, for my coil testing, and will use it more often.
I still have slowly worked on HV related stuff.
I found a surplus store in my area, and bought this transformer for $20 after tax. 20 pounds, sand potted. 120 in, 240 out. 240 in, 480 out. I tapped it for 120 in, 240 and 480 out. Rated at 1KW. Not bad at all, for $20. Even has a metal shell, thats a bonus! This will be used for CW tesla coils on the 480 side, as well as many other 240/480 projects.
Okay. So whats the new hobby. My new hobby is multicopters, quadcopters. UAV, FPV, drone, etc. Right now i have a copter made, and slowly buying FPV gear. Learning how to fly, and so forth. Eventually, I will be wearing goggles on my head, and flying my quad all over, using an ob-board camera. I just need my OSD and goggles to do that. the OSD provides all my angles, home direction, distance from home, and altitude. As well as logging GPS data, to display my flight on google earth in 3D. Also will be connected to a 360 spin, 180 tilt, tripod. This is motorized, and points at my aircraft at all times. Because i use a patch antenna, i have limited field of view, 2000ft+ for video. The antenna tracker, points at my aircraft, always giving me the best signal. Theres a lot more to it, but this is just the basics.
I have made a vidoe that is just me learning how to fly, getting the hang of controls found here:
The end product, once i get the money to upgrade cameras and stuff, will be like this:
and there you have it. Some build pics are found here:

Thank you, Some people I've met on here were really against TGG. Im just happy that im well accepted and valuable for helping with their future TC projects. Its a good place, and i found what many had told me in the past, about TGG, to be just a bunch of BS. I enjoy my time there, when im not too busy in college/work :(
As for the quads, some stereotype RC people as 'old guys that retire hobby' Quadcopters are a different story. Lot more high tech, the majority of fliers are age 14+ and to fly with FPV / UAV style, is just incredible.

Don't forget to add a failsafe that cuts motor power to a slow descent in the event of loss of comms. I would also add an emergency 'chute as well, as breaking someone's windscreen or worse would suck.

Right now i dont have FPV installed, and im running on a little 3000mAh. I get ABOUT 20-25 minutes.
Dr. Spark - I have already had 2 people offer to pay me to do a little scout. One guy wants me to get footage on his property in the swamp area (never been back there) The other guy wants images of tree stands at a local gun-club...
I know wind farms use quadcopters to do visual inspections where they either cant place people, or dont have enough people with the guts to get on top and hang over. Cool stuff ;)

Whee, quadcopters! I want one, and I bet I'm not the only reader of this thread who does. Any tips on getting started for complete newbs? I guess you buy them in kits like RC cars and planes, but what is a good one?
The roof of our apartment building is leaking, can you come and inspect that?

Wasnt a kit, i just bought from many different sites based on peoples builds, or suggestions. I built mine based of Juz's build (the youtube video above) to get similar ability. You can see that thread here:
