dear coilers,

i just made my first coil an SGTC it was a good project for a first coil.
but now i see alot of video's on youtube about coils taht are audio modulated.
i searched and searched on the internet but couldn't find an awfull lot about audio modulated TC's.
I live in the Netherlands and I'm not speaking english well enough to understand those english technical terms.
so thats why i post here:
mhy question is: is it possible to transform a SGTC into a audio modulated coil, by somehow replacing the Spark Gap by an electronic interuptor? If so, than can someone please help me and describe how to?
I would appreciate this very much, although i would understand it if you wouldn't want to do this since you all obviously put alot of effort into your work.

The stats of my SGTC are:
linefrequency: 50Hz
HV transformer: 8500V 50mA NST
capacitor: 24 beerbottle leyden jar capbank (secondhand free MMC broke)
primary coil: 10 turn (flt coil) 12 mm copper tube, 25 mm spacing, 165 mm inner diameter.
sparkgap: 4 gap copper tube SG
secondary coil: 125mm X 600 mm, 0.5mm wire, 1200 turns.
top load: 250 mm width, 100mm high.

Would appreciate help, thanks in advance.

my sparks come out a bit short now due too the leyden jars' loss (high DF) but will replace those with proper MMC's.
( Link2 ) sparks start at 1:09

A triggered solid state spark gap replacement would work, search for info on the SISG and Finn Hammer's T-BRISG. Finn Hammer actually audio-modulated his T-BRISG coil with great success Link2 .

Triggered solid state gaps tend to need a lot of expensive high voltage IGBTs, so just going with a DRSSTC might be a bit simpler

thank you very much for your reply!!!

uhm well how much would those IGBT's roughly cost in dollars for my transformer? cos i
need like 6 stages for my TC right?

+ question: what would be the maximum sparklength for my SGTC with 425 Watts of input power (got only 14 inch now)

+ question: would a string of 8 x "CDE 942C20P15K" be enough for my circuit? thx alot already!

+ question would it be able to wind the HV-output of an NST around a MOT-core with many primairy turns and few secondairy turns to lower the voltage?

I really appreciate your comment because i never heard of a SISG before and everyone always said i had to build an SSTC but than i wouldn't have an added primairy capacitance to cancel out the inductance. and a DRSSTC would be to hard right now XD this is a more understandable solution for my problem but it my run very high in costs as you already said.

You can try a triggered spark gap, which has a third electrode, a short HV pulse into this electrode triggers the gap.

would that work well, a triggered spark gap ?

it sounds interesting but than i'd probably locate the Spark gap somewhere else so the sound of the spark wouldn't be interfered by the spark gap.
also this would probablt be cheaper than SISG right?
