I want to wind a flyback like the one on this web site. Link2

I searched 4hv and then did my own searching but came up with nothing.

Where can i order a flyback core that size or a little smaller?

thanks,

not sure of exact dimentions, but TSC international is my preferred supplier.

If you buy a set of big U core pieces from TSC, you might want to ask if they can select two for you that are dimensionally close.

Being that the manufacturing tolerances on the width are rather loose, you could conceivably get one that's, say, 0.05" oversize, and another that's 0.05" undersize...making it hard to work with the core as far as mechanical considerations are concerned.

Also, what I do is to take a small diamond-grit file and round off the sharp edges on each leg of the "U" (i.e., the four 1.25" long sharp edges parallel to dimension "C" shown in fig. 4). It only takes about 5 minutes to do this to each core half.

Rounding these edges seems to make them less prone to chipping; also, rounding them off should reduce the electric field enhancement that can occur at these edges under certain conditions.

That core came from a really old FBT. It's hard to find 'thin' cores like that nowadays.

If you find a source let me know smile

you may never find that kind ever again, but i was considering using the largest dremel diamond wheel as a tiny table saw then buying rectanugular slabs or round bars, and cutting 45 and 90 degree edges to make odd sized cores.

AC flybacks won't give you foot long arcs tongue

Just buy ferrite rectangles and superglue them into a core. Since the flyback has an air gap anyway it won't matter much.

Heres a Flyback secondary i wound last night.

Heres a vid Link2

Specs:
39v-30v (30v at max arc length)
Driven by a ZVS flyback driver
3+3 primary
~1250 turns ~50-60 turns per layer
5-6 inch arcs

These pictures are old i added about twice as many layers

I used projection sheets and mineral oil for insulation.

That is one tight secondary coil! Well done.

Mine looks more like a hand grenade from all the electrical tape I used ( ;
