I realize this is going to be a very politically charged year, both in the United States and elsewhere. However, the massive influx of extremely negative politics-related threads is getting out of hand. Let's keep the political discussion down to a dull roar. Most people don't come here for a dose of politics, and many of the threads lately have been mean-spirited wedge-driving.
Try to focus on what we have in common, instead of on what we don't.
Politics is boring. As long as someone has to be president, I'd like him to have a funny name... AKA Newt. LOL. President Newt. If he gets elected president, I shall be drawing lots of pictures.

What would be the point of a political discourse when I have brought up controversial topics in the past, to then be snuffed out by a more Liberal leaning.
My background is fairly conservative, but when I engaged in what you might consider "free speech", I got the wind taken from my sails. That is not to say I don't like the forum, or like to post comments, but what I expect to see from anyone wanting to pursue a political discourse, is that you put everything on the table and be honest about your agenda, your biases, and to whom you SERVE (self serving eg. selfish goals, or your political party)
I hope you guys think about what I am saying here in a critical sense, and not just call me "Mister Negativity", those of you with age will understand where I am coming from more I think. There is no honesty in politics, after all, how can you trust someone who talks out of both sides of their mouth, and that's not to say they believe in what they say, have any moral fiber, or are an outright hypocrite.
I close with saying that politicians to me are more like professional wrestlers, and that is very sad.
P.S. don't get all uppity about my spelling, I am an Engineer and I didn't use the spell check, so criticize me on the content, not the execution.

What about creating a separate category for anything that might be deemed "political" in nature? That way, people who don't want to view it or participate can simply avoid it completely.

discussing politics always leads to arguments. To me, 4hv is a place of help and support, and a very friendly one at that. So I agree with the original idea, and not with creating a "political" section.

People who want to have political conversations can seek out a political forum.
Politics is a game and just tends to stir up trouble. This is a science forum, where we should be dealing with facts, not talking out of both sides of our mouths.
