I happen to be looking through some old threads, and I came across a soap bubble formula thread which gave me an idea...

Does anyone know enough about Vortex rings and how they form enough to try and make one with a soap bubble? If you could get a ring large enough around the opening of the generator perhaps you could make a few? With smoke? Hot damned... I gotta dig around here and see what I can find to make a generator.

Smoke ring generators do not make bubble rings. The best you will get is 4 or 5 small bubbles stuck in the ring, they will go for about 40-50 feet.

I have not actually done any Schlieren photography myself. The pic I showed in "mystery photos" was not mine.
However I have obtained a good quality 6 inch concave mirror with the intention of doing this either with a laser or white light source. Similar to the setup here. One day..

The photo is of the commercial fog machine.

You have to check out this page. Make sure you watch the head-on collision clip of the two colored vortex rings in water.
