Attempting plasma speaker, sound coming through toroid/mosfets?

I'm following the schematics on this site to make a plasma speaker. I have the circuit prototyped on a breadboard, but I'm getting strange results. When I power it on, the audio is being played back through the circuit, either the ferrite toroid or the mosfets. When I connect the flyback, I get almost nonexistant sparks. With OR without the flyback, one or more components on the breadboard is resonating and can literally hear the song being played with no spark. The sound seems to be coming from the MOSFET side, but I can't be sure. What's going on here? Since the flyback isn't hooked up, there can only be 12v running through the board, not enough to arc, so how can there be sound?

Here's a video: As you can see, the flyback is not connected, yet there is audio payback.

Anyone know what could be happening?

Its coming from the ferrite toroid. If you stopped the music and turned the freqency pot all the way down you should start to hear a high pitched squealing sound.

This is caused by the core materiel vibrating at what ever frequency you have it running at. When audio is being added it acts like a small speaker.

And, I will add; You do NOT need such big capacitors on your mosfet half bridge. 1 uF caps will work just as well as any other value; Gren (the person who designed the circuit) picked them before he knew much about half bridges and the way they work.

Ahh okay. So there's nothing to be done about the sound from the toroid? Also, the fact that the flyback isn't being power is a seperate issue? I suppose I could have mis-wired something, but this is the 4th time I've rebuilt it.

I built the circuit a long time ago using two 10,000uf caps and haven't had a issue, what the difference in using a lower capacitance?

No idea but I also built this circuit using 10,000uF 50v Panasonic capacitors and it works fine. Well apart from it destroying 3 of my flybacks (I have nick-named this driver "the flyback murderer")!
