My keypad is broken. I have no idea why, but it means that it will be a while before I can access any sites I go on because I am sending it in for repair. I'm gonna have to live without the forum for a month... cry *sigh*...

By then, I will probably get my coil working (thanks to the generosity of Killa-X and Kizmo) and I will try to use my mom's laptop to post a notification about that.

Until then...

why don't you just install a new keypad? They're pretty cheap

It's a laptop. The keyboard is attached. I cannot remove it. Also its a 2k laptop and I do not want to risk damaging it.

You can still replace it, I find it actually very hard to damage laptops.
Theres usually a few screws on the underside and the keyboard just pops off with a ribbion cable or two leading off somewhere, keyboards are really easy to replace.
I've replaced pretty much everything on mine at one point or another, come to think of it it's pretty much a new laptop... Chances are you've been ripped off sending it in for repair, almost all repair places charge stupid amounts.

Replacing laptop keyboards is easy, all you need is a screw driver and a replacement keyboard.

There is really no risk of damaging it unless you are careless and heavy-handed with it.

Be careful when removing the ribbon from the connector, as they have a tendency to be delicate. I usually use a plastic Ipod opening tool to push the locking mechanism forwards on each side a bit at a time then it unlocks.

Usually the keyboard screws on the bottom of the laptop have a picture of a keyboard right next to them. If there are not any then they might be under the bezel that surrounds the keyboard. You can usually find a few youtube videos on how to take it off. If all else fails type the model number of the laptop into the search bar and then "disassembly" after it.

Google your laptop make + "dismantle", I've found there are step by step instructions for most types to be had. I'd never even thought of touching one before when my son wrecked his audio-out jack. I got the instructions, followed them to the letter, and 60 mins later had a complete kit of laptop parts spread all over the desk (that jack is on the mobo, and everything is built off the mobo). Now the neat thing is, they went back together, and it still worked. A replacement keyboard will be a lot easier than that.

:/ I'd probably destroy it further...
