I have decided to share an idea on SSTC (IH too maybe) controller design useing a CD4046 with a UC3845. I believe this would give a lower parts count mostly. Iam not sure if all of the UC3845 can keep up so that will need to be explored.

UC3845 use as a OCD for controlling current and possibly voltage in the primary coil. The CD4046 for controlling frequency and running oscillator.

anyone interested please comment!

Note schematic is not tested and is wrong

genraly people use a variac to controle power so you could use the 3845 ie PWM to controle power to mains dublier and 4046 to tesla conrole. If you try to to PWM the tesla you could excite the harmics in the tesla wich would not be good. it would be the equivalent of harmonic destortion onless you filter the secondary fundimental Fo from your feedback.

I was not thinking of useing the 3845 for PWM, but for over current detection.

I will edit that into the first post to clear that up.

the uc3845 is current mode PWM and a strange coice to merry to a 4046. I kind of see what you want to do to use the 4046 to drive the oscilator input on the 3845 and PWM the gates of your fet's using a CVR. I asume to controle fet current. I still think that hamonics will screw with the 4046. the best way is 1 to simulated if you had models or 2 breadboard it and test it out on a small scale

Ok, I think harmonics could matter more from where the feedback is coming from, primary or secondary.

so It will have to be tested and I will make a schematic that is a bit more complete. if anyone else wants to help testing and designing feel free to comment and share.
