This is my first generator. It is powered by a flyback transformer. The flyback transformer itself can produce 2~3cm spark and this is a five stage Marx generator so I expect at least 10~12cm spark. But I only get 6cm spark.I tried to adjust my spark gaps but this didn't help much. What might be the problem?
I also noticed that when I tried th increase the distance between outputs the first spark gap continue to arc over and I cannot get any spark on output. Is this normal?
Special HV resistors are too expensive to me and I happen to find these resistors. Are they suitable in this application?

The spark length depends on the shape of the terminals. For a Marx generator you can use two points and get the maximum spark length for a given voltage. A spark gap should "see" the others, so ultraviolet light helps in the simultaneous triggering. The resistors may be sparking over when the system triggers. Verify if you can see corona over them, or in the connections, that should not have exposed points or sharp corners.
