Hi, I was thinking of getting a laser/infrared thermometer for general electronics use and taking more accurate temperature readings of things like components and heat-sinks than just putting my hand on it and guessing.
Looking on amazon there seems to be quite a price difference between different brands with some costing around £15 and some upto £100. I was thinking of getting this one as (at-least in the UK) Rolson are an ok brand.
So my question is, is there a big difference between cheaper models and has anyone on here got one they can recommend? I don't need huge temperature measuring ranges and 100% accuracy for my uses.

We have IR thermometers at work but we rarely use them, a dmm with a thermocouple is more reliable.
Thanks. So are they complete crap?
Don't multimeter temperature probes measure the surrounding area of the probe rather than just one spot like the infra-red ones do? As one of the reasons I was looking at them was to measure single spots/components on circuits.

Actually, DMM probes measure a spot and the infra-red ones measure an area.
Thanks. Wow I did not know this, I though it was the other way around!
Shame my multimeter does not have a temperature mode but I think my dads does, looks like I will have to "borrow" his (he only uses his for checking car and his motorbike battery voltages).
