I might consider using 10 gauge wires for all the areas I can use it (everything but the cap and resistor leads) which would help a bit with parasitic inductance. Any other ideas?

I have 20kv rated caps, I was originally going to run them at 15kv each but might ramp it up to 18kv and reduce the stages perhaps to 10. I'm going for open air so I'll put a good bit of shrink tubing on all the cap leads considering the stage voltage.

Interesting, do you have any links for further reading?

The high priests of the nanosecond rise-time Marx UWB source are Mayes, Nunnally, Carey, and Altgilbers, so if you Google Marx Generator with any of their names, alone and together, you'll pull up a wad of papers relating to your topic.

But heed the caution given by Sulaiman above!

Proud Mary: Its probably extremely difficult to generate the nanosecond level rise times by some amateur like me without employing some exotic solutions based on some of what I've read. Thanks for the help though.
