has anyone ever tested the toroids from an atx supply? having taken a few apart now, i can say that most have similar toroids(1"od, .5"id, .5"width). if anyone has already done tests on these, could they say what the specs are? and if not, how would i go about testing these? i don't have much in terms of test equipment: 5v logic analyzer and a 1 channel handheld scope. i would like to be able to see if they are ferrite, and not powdered iron... and if so, the al and frequency range.

Well, they can be used in any application that doesn't involve them suffer significant AC current component, such as mazzili driver chokes (or any other current fed inverters!), class E amplifier chokes , chokes for any continuous-current mode buck/boost/whatever converters, etc.
