About a week ago I finally received a bunch of HV diodes and cheap Chinese ceramic caps in the mail.
To keep me busy on these endless summer holidays I'm going to throw together a small 25kV CW using a 6kV NST as input, just for the sake of it, really :)
Anyway, the caps are rated at 20kV, however, they only have about 10mm lead spacing. Since this is a fairly low voltage CW, would liquid electrical tape suffice as insulation for the cap leads?
also, I believe I will have to coat the 2M ohm output resistor in an insulator to keep it flashing over at full output voltage, since it is only about 45mm between the metal end caps, and the body of the resistor is quite glossy.
I've used liquid eletrical tape to insulate a pulsed iggy coil which throws sparks about 80mm, so I think it will work for 25kV, however I wish to be certain before I risk all those nice HV diodes!
