I managed to crack open a flyback transformer and though I would share some photos here.

I shot it with an air rifle a couple of times, a chunk of the flyback is still missing when it flew off into a nearby bush in my garden.

An interesting thing to note is that the epoxy inside the flyback body has very hard and sharp edges. The secondary coil is very thin (probably around 50SWG) and each layer is insulated from the last by a thick plastic film. Each individual windings seems to be also insulated from the last by a coating of clear plastic of some sort.

Also the resistors for the potential divider were not like conventional resistors, but they were white plastic pieces with carbon tracks integrated into them that curved around the screen and focus knobs. The screen and focus knobs just moved a tap point around them. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the photos of that.

Could you unwrap the wire? I have always wondered what the internal diodes for the split diode secondary look like.

how many turns do you guesstimate it has in the secondary?

Ill try but everything is stuck together pretty tightly! its the clear plastic insulation that is very hard to remove.

I have no idea, there are many layers of the thinnest wire you have ever seen (I would guess around 50SWG gauge).

Every-time I try and remove some of the secondary it just snaps.

I had another go at remove the secondary coil but gave up after about 20 minutes.

Below shows some strands of the secondary and how fine they are compared to my thumb, and the second photo shows the primary coil is located physically inside of the secondary coil.

Still unable to locate any of the HV diodes, which I assume are potted separately from the rest of the coil assembly.
