I had a sony camcorder dcr-dvd101 that could accept S-video input. Does anyone recommend any other camcorder that is not too expensive and will accept video input? I need to record off of some equipment in the operating rooms. I can take S-Video, RCA or BCN for the input to the camera. There is no USB on the video equipment, so this one is out.

New camcorders are digital, so they don't have an analog video input, as it would mean adding an expensive A/D converter chip to the unit.

Look at websites that sell helmet cams for sports use and so on. The popular "bullet cam" miniature cameras have a S-video output, and I saw at least one site that sold recorders for use with them, and maintained a list of compatible camcorders.

The GoPro miniature cameras record straight to SD card and have probably made the bullet cam obsolete.

I haven't seen a video input on a camcorder in a while (that is, on the consumer level, I never did much on the pro/pro-sumer level except one camera that doesn't have it).

Is there a particular reason why you need to send it straight to the camcorder? Just convenience or an actual need?

I personally just use a capture card on a computer and move it wherever it needs to go from there. (I used to use USB, but use a desktop now that I put a PCIe card that has HDMI/YPbPc/RCA on it).

it's a problem I encountered when I wanted to
copy from my old Sony H-8 S-video out to my new(er) Sony HD camera ... no video in.
The cheap Chinese/eBay usb capture device I bought
works surprisingly well for standard video.
If you can take a laptop into the operating rooms.

Most of the video equipment at the hospital has analog outputs; some have digital output. This piece in particular is just analog. If I want to capture video, I need a portable device that I can attach; hence, the need for a camera with S-video.

I will probably have to go to ebay.

what kind of application? security DVRs are pretty affordable now if you just need video. however they will have composite input.

Hmm, what about using the input on the graphics card?
Normally S-video, can convert between that and baseband with a single capacitor.
