so im on a really tight budget. im working on my primary coil right now. im probly not going to be able to get copper tubing, which is ideal. im probly goona have to use solid single strand wire. will this affect the performance? what guage should i use? 12 guage is the easiest to find. just looking for your input on this. ty

I have used stranded wire on a small SGTC with great success,try it and see what happens...you didn't post what size of coil you are building...you can even use aluminum with also..

Tube is ideal, next up single-conductor solid wire, worst being stranded. All of these being due to skin effect. Tube is best since the inner core is useless, so for the same copper you can get more surface area. Stranded is by far worst, because in order to stay on the outside of the whole conductor, the current has to continually jump from wire to wire, which involves crossing lots of oxidized layers so the high frequency resistance shoots up way faster than any solid conductor would.

if you can find about 10 ft of # 4 it will do fine thats how I started. it may be easyier to find scrap wire than copper tubing. I have even made SGTC primary's with aluminuim tubing and wire wich is a cheaper subtitute
