Laptops, at least old ones seem to stand up to large DRSSTC rather well. Even after striking this one many many times with 10 footers it amazingly still booted up after the ordeal.

That is interesting that it survived. It probably helps that it is not connected to ground, since the arcs just want to go past it to get to the ground. It reminds me of something I read about airplanes getting hit by lightning.
I wonder if it would survive if it was powered up during this.

I have hooked my DRSSTC to my laptop (A Dell XPS M1330) while shooting out 7ft sparks, standing maybe 20ft away. Doesnt effect a thing, and the laptop was the one supplying the audio feed
More reguarded to your subject, your not the only one that has done it.

Another laptop vs SGTC at least..
I also run my coils from a laptop over fiber, never did doubt that this was a problem at all. I was more interested in just blowing !@#$ up if you catch my drift
They may have did it first but my coil is bigger than there's :P I was pumping a good 12Kw into that pore thing hehe
Although I think the fact that it had a partly metal case helped it tremendously.

I have noticed that most electronics are resistant to even the worst FCC violators. I have used several cameras to film tesla coils close up as well as having laptops in the room, none of them ever had any strange behavior. However when I use a webcam to try to film a violet wand the webcam will disconnect for 3-5 seconds at random. I think it is the long USB cord picking up the RF : /

I don't know. 12" x 7' secondary. 4ft Topload, kicking out 15ft sparks or more at most, drawing 180A on 480v lines. Our coils run on 2 120KVA pole pigs in series ballested ,for 30kv out. Fun :)

Is it really taking you guys 86.4KVA and two coils to make 15 feet?!?! Because that's like crazy inefficient!
It only takes us about 12KVA and one coil to make 13 feet, with 24KVA and two coils running out of phase we could easily push 24 feet.
