I'm a senior in High School right now and I am planning to get a degree in Electrical Engineering (I like to build stuff that uses electricity so I figured this was a good choice). I applied to 4 schools and have gotten accepted to 3 so far: Arizona State University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Michigan Technological University. I am waiting on University-Wisconsin Madison, although I'm pretty sure I will get in. I will be visiting all of them early this year so I can get a better feel for them. But I want to hear your input. Have any of you had any experience with these schools?

I just want a college that will give me the best chance of getting a good job by the time I graduate while still giving me a decent education.

It depends if you want to get a job in the area of one of those colleges, or anywhere in the country.

if you want to stay local, it probably dosen't matter, as long as it is a decent school. If you want to get out of Wisconsin/Michigan after you get a degree, go to the one with the highest national ranking and with the best reputation.

visits are very important, paper can never show everything.

As an Arizona State University student I'm probably bias but I will share my opinion none the less.

I also applied to several collages such as cal poly SL, UCLA ect... Got excepted to many of them. I choose ASU though for a couple of reasons.

It's a relatively inexpensive collage, at least compared to a lot of schools, slightly less that the UC system but not by much.

The phoenix area is chocked full of tech manufacturer, I drove past On semi conductor and freescale semiconductor just on my way to the hotel when I toured the school a year back. I also know Intel is located there as well along with many more.

If you look at ASU's engineering program, it is actually rated rather high, not saying it's the best out there but it's in the top 25 and that's nothing to frown at.

Last it's not to far from where I currently live in southern California (8 hour drive, ok so kinda far) and I also have family in Prescott and one of the best teslathons in the country being about a 60mins drive away from the school (WWT) not to mention the awesome coilers that run it. cheesey

Hope this helps,
Eric

Yeah it kinda depends on what your cost/area of interest is, and employment connections with the industry for whatever that college is known for.

In your case yeah arizona was a good choice, but how high up do you want to go? a Phd in EE? Berkley, MIT ?
the school doesnt have to be able to issue a Phd to be good. And even if your only after a Masters in EE, at a higher level school your not neccsarily gaining more cred with an employer, yet youll pay much more.

i liked the University of North Dakota, Grand Forks or Embry-Riddel in florida for aerodynamics/flight related enginneering. I was at UND Grand Forks, in august of 2011 for the IARC flying competition. Really nice, but totally flat as far as the eye can see.

must sleep now. will follow this thread and listen to what others post here as well.

I'm at the University of Colorado at Boulder and love it. Beautiful mountains and a great engineering school. The aerospace was ranked 2nd in the country and electrical is right up there with it. Of course I'm biased being a Colorado native. It's pretty expensive for out of staters too.

Try for the Ivy leagues. MIT is an engineering college. It's my dream college. It doesn't hurt to apply. Georgia Tech is another.
