My tubeamp has the preamp stage built in, and it easily goes up to clipping from a mp3 players output: Link2

The site i found that preamp cir on stated a THD figure at levels usually seen in ss gear.

Built it using the 6EW7 tube!

And i must say, it sounds so lovely. It sounds amazing. Running it off of rectified mains, with a circuit I found that uses 6EM7 tubes. (those kind have slightly higher gain than mine, but are otherwise the same tube)

I'm very happy with my amplifier, however, I noticed that the overall volume level is unchanged. The bass and sound of the music sounds better though, but the volume sounds no different, maybe a TAD louder.

Should I add a preamp preamp? :P

It's already using the two triodes available in the tube. So if I do make a pre-pre amplifier, it would need to be something relatively simple.

I would just use a transistor one...but I'm afraid of defeating the purpose of even using tubes that way.

Link2

Here's a schematic. I'll post a video or something later today.

Great job!

How is the noise?

As for the preamplifier, it's common to have many stages in tube designs to make up for their lower gain. You only need the extra stages if it's not loud enough.

My guess is that you can get a lot more power out if you double mains and add a preamplifier, but if it satisfies your needs as it is, I don't see why you should change a thing.

Well, I do have another tube. I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Link2 perhaps this?

But remember you only get maximum 2 watts from that lil amp cir u built with those tubes, so it may well be that it doesent have the power to go any louder with your speakers.

well... I just measured the final output signal...

The input and output are exactly, and I mean exactly the same p-p voltage. No gain, at all.
