SSTC primary turn ratio?

Is inductance the only important thing to be adjusted on the primary of a SSTC, because I remember reading somewhere that ratio of primary turns to the secondary turns coupled to it also matters. So, is it true that a high ''step up'' ratio runs the MOSFETs harder.

I only ask because I used 38AWG on my coil which gives about 200 turns per inch, and since I have already fried a pair of MOSFETs I thought that it would be best to look at every possibility.

The coupling is the thing that matters the most in a SSTC. Basically you want to get the highest coupling possible without a flash-over. The reason for this is that with a higher coupling, you can use more turns for the same output power, the reactive power decreases and this is easier on the transistors. The inductance here has just a parasitic influence; ideally you want to eliminate the inductance as much as possible.

All right, thank you very much.

It was very hard to find info on this for some reason, so I appreciate the help.

I am going to add a few more turns to the primary and try to push the coupling a little more.

technically to get rid of the inductance, you would cancel it out with capacitance... Which would make it a DRSSTC.
