I have some of these chips here.
Can you send a copy of the code you used?
Am having a lot of problems getting the I2C to do anything.

Conundrum, I believe you are mistaken about the interface. The HV5522 I have are not I2C. They are indeed latched shift registers. It works just like the 74HC595, and there are tons of material about this one avaiable online, including code. You just have to 'stack' four of them (8bits) for each HV5522 (32bits).

What is the uC you are using?

Be aware that the HV5522 requires 12V on latch, blank, data and clock inputs. I used mosfets as a level shifter since I am using the Atmega328.
But I was silly enough not to care about getting all the signals inverted. Doing it again, I would follow this:

That ought to explain the problems, thanks!
Wonder if anyone has tried to make a matrix EL display with this and Jeri's EL PCB track idea yet?
Use etched ITO as the front contacts and cover, and heat seal it onto the display.
Idea *2, drill holes through the (thin) PCB then drop a microscopic droplet of dielectric and phosphor onto each hole and pull a vacuum through the panel.
Plus it allows you to do colour if you use highlighter pen ink.


On the whole "MEMS driver" thing, would this have any chance of working for a DLP projector where the driver IC is fried?
The DLP "looks" OK but without the data sheet its going to be a particularly gnarly hack.

I may be able to trace the power lines easily then use DMM to each pin to determine the chances of each line being an address line, data line or clock.
