couldn't help my self but lol'ed in class when I saw this question.
the text book was from a grade 12 advanced functions course.
felt like a boss after prooving my teacher wrong AND being the only person that got the right answer. cheesey

if youre reffering to the 120 Vrms versus 120 Vp-p then you might be right, let me think a minute.

EDIT: im getting...

a) 120Vrms x sqrt(2) = 169.7V+p-p
b) 1s / 60Hz = 0.0167s for each single cycle
c) 169.7 Vp-p x sin( X 60Hz x 2 x PI ) --- or --- (120Vrms x sqrt(2)) x ( sin( X 60Hz x 2 x PI ) )
d) Looks like a normal sine wave starting upward at y and x = 0

* bold indicates letter X, while x indicates multiplication.

max voltage is (120v * root 2)
thats why if u fullwave rectify AC voltage and charge a capacitor, the cap's voltage will be root 2 multiplied by the RMS voltage of the AC voltage

Calculator screen shot with x and y info. Plotting part "d".

Hahaha that's awesome. Looks like they wanted a real life model to teach simple sine functions and just thought no one at that level would know the difference between rms and "max" voltage.

nice calculator BTW, is it more power hungry than the TI-83/84 series?

Yes it eats batteries faster than teh TI-83/84's, but the voyage 200 and TI-89 will do much more than those previous generations of devioces.

IE pretty print and faster computations of more complex math a floating point stuff.
