Hi all.
The recent Hackaday activity on laser 3-D printers got me thinking.
How feasible is a fully 3D printed Tesla Coil?
i.e. print the secondary "on the fly" with wire embedded in the plastic. Once done, lift finished coil out and rinse with solvents etc to remove any uncured monomer and test.

Using my reprap (FDM type 3d printer) I have printed a few parts for my upcoming DRSSTC. Not the secondary though. Only end caps for the secondary and possibly primary supports.
I believe the reprap project is still working on embedding wires in printed parts. Its more difficult then one would expect.

I want a 3d printer that prints metal parts, I often wounder if you could use a mig welder on an xy table, to make crude stuff.
the printers avaible use metal powders and a co2 laser in a vacuum chamber, they can even print fine threaded holes and studs from what i have read, but at the price of 1 million dollars i don't think i will ever have one it would be preaty cool to just print out a bolt and nut you need......LoL

What we need is a printer that prints on the atomic level! This would also get past the problem of strength. As you could print out pre-tempered bolts.
Hell you could just print out a carbon nano tube bolt...
