Calculating resonant capacitor values

I saw a thread somewhere else on 4hv about calculating the resonant capacitor value, involving the inductance of the transformer maybe? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Is it something like the reso cap value is half the inductance of the tranny? I'm not sure but I need clarification thanks.

To find the value of a resonant capacitor, you'd need the inductance of the transformer, and the frequency you're looking for.

You can just google "Resonant frequency calculator" and it'll come up with several.

There are, but the simplest way requires a signal generator and osilloscope.

You connect a capacitor of known value in parallel with the unknown inductance, you usually also connect a resistor in series with this circuit, then you connect the two ends to the sig. gen. and connect the 'scope across the capacitor/inductor, and adjust the sig. gen. until the amplitude indicated on the 'scope is at a maximum.

This is the resonant frequency of the inductor/capacitor. from here you can work out the inductance.
