Hi all.
If anyone is interested, recycled polystyrene dissolved in acetone (the 99% stuff NOT the cheap kind) and then mixed with aluminate glow powder lights up nicely.
A bit late for Halloween but I did make a glowing beer glass.
It sticks nicely to many plastics due to the acetone content, and UV LEDs can be embedded in it while liquid but watch the fumes though.
Someone suggested making homemade polystyrene plate capacitors by using Al foil plates, roller extruded polystyrene and then apply the second plate while liquid then roll it up and dry under vacuum; another idea is to use powdered carbon and tyre repair compound.
Suspending zinc sulphide in the mix sort of works, it sticks to ITO coated glass too but obviously the layer thickness is critical. There is some shrinkage and embrittlement as it cures but this is a non issue if the structure is rigid.
Have fun! -A
